چکیده

We describe a method to generate blend surfaces which t with continuous curvature to the primary surfaces. This blend surface is obtained as the bicubic tensor spline minimizing a variational problem. Among all the bicubic tensor splines which give a curvature continuous blend surface, the one is chosen which minimizes a bilinear functional. In Section 2 we summarize and extend the results of a previous paper in such a way that they are applicable to our problem. In Section 3 we outline in detail the procedure how to generate a blend surface based on these results.

Geometrical Criteria to Guarantee Curvature Continuity of Blend Surfaces

Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) of surfaces sometimes presents problems that were not envisioned in classical differential geometry. This paper presents mathematical results that pertain to the design of curvature continuous blending surfaces. Curvature continuity across normal continuous surface patches requires that normal curvatures agree along all tangent directions at all points of ...

Smooth Blending of Basic Surfaces Using Trivariate Box Splines

To blend between basic implicitly deened CSG surfaces we propose to use the zero set of a spline in three variables. The resulting blend surface is generically curvature continuous, of algebraic degree four independent of the number of surfaces joined, and supports both point classiication and eecient rendering. A detailed exposition of the 2D analogue blend construction is given.

Run-time Three-dimensional Blend-path Generation for Cobot Constraint Surfaces

During human-cobot interaction, transitions often occur between free mode operation and constraint surface following. This paper considers the following typical scenario: an operator of a three-dimensional (e.g. x-y-z or x-y-θ) cobot commands a “join” from free mode to a one-dimensional constraint path. To ensure that this transition is smooth and responsive, a “blend path” is computed that joi...

Numerical and Theoretical Investigations Concerning the Continuous-Surface-Curvature Effect in Compressor Blades

Though the importance of curvature continuity on compressor blade performances has been realized, there are two major questions that need to be solved, i.e., the respective effects of curvature continuity at the leading-edge blend point and the main surface, and the contradiction between the traditional theory and experimental observations in the effect of those novel leading-edge shapes with s...

Blending Basic Implicit Shapes Using Trivariate Box Splines

To blend be~ween simple implicit surfaces, such as the sphere, the cone, the cylinder and the torus, we propose La locally employ the zero set of a serendipitous trivariate box spline. This box spline is defined by seven directions that form a regular partition of space into tetrahedra. The resulting blend surface is curvature continuous. An approxlmateparametrization of the piecewise implicit ...
